Welcome to North Tahoe School Band
6th Grade Band
Intro to Band is intended for students in their first year of instruction on flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, or baritone. Students will perform in a minimum of 3 concerts per year, taking place in December, March, and June. The curriculum will also develop students' skills in music theory, music reading, breathing, musical expression, and working in small/large groups. Members of the 6h Grade Band are expected to practice at home, turn in their practice journals, put forth their best effort in class, and approach band with a positive attitude. Outstanding students may be selected by the director to play saxophone, tuba, french horn, or percussion in the spring semester.
7th Grade Band
The 7th Grade Band class is intended for students in their second year of instruction on a wind or percussion instrument in a large ensemble. Students will perform in a minimum of 4 concerts per year, taking place in October, December, March, and June. The curriculum will also develop students' skills in music theory, music reading, breathing, musical expression, and working in small/large groups. Members of the 7th Grade Band are expected to practice at home, turn in their practice journals, put forth their best effort in class, and approach band with a positive attitude. Students who wish to play in the 7thgrade band in their first year of playing an instrument should contact Ms. Meyer directly. Only committed, hard-working students will be admitted under such circumstances.
8th Grade Band
The 8th Grade Band class is intended for students in their third year of playing a wind or percussion instrument in a large ensemble. Students will perform in a minimum of 4 concerts per year, taking place in October, December, March, and June. The curriculum will also develop students' skills in music theory, music reading, breathing, musical expression, and working in small/large groups. Members of the 8thGrade Band are expected to practice at home, turn in their practice journals, put forth their best effort in class, and approach band with a positive attitude. Students who wish to join the band in their first year of playing an instrument should contact Ms. Meyer directly. Only committed, hard-working students will be admitted under such circumstances.
Laker Jazz Band
The Laker Jazz Band is a performance based, audition-only class that meets before school (0 period) every day from 7:30am - 8:15am. Laker Jazz performs at several community and school events throughout the year, including school functions, school concerts, the Sierra Century Ride, and the Tahoe City Holiday Tree-Lighting. The band also travels to perform at various music festivals. Members must audition and be enrolled in the 7th or 8th Grade Concert Band in order to participate.
