Volunteer at TTUSD
Thank you for your interest in volunteering! Volunteers play a vital role in enriching our students’ educational experience, supporting staff, and building strong school communities.
To ensure the safety and security of all students and staff, TTUSD requires all volunteers to complete an appropriate clearance process based on the capacity of your volunteer work prior to starting.
Step 1: Identify Your Clearance Level
TTUSD has two distinct clearance levels based on the nature of your volunteer role. Please review the definitions below to determine which level applies to you before starting your application.
Supervised Volunteers
Volunteers who remain under the constant, direct supervision of a TTUSD staff member at all times and are never left alone with students.
- Common Roles: Classroom volunteers, office and library helpers, fundraiser volunteers, and field trip volunteers who remain with a staff member for the duration of the event.
- Clearance Requirements: Presenting a government-issued ID before entering the school. That ID is scanned and quickly runs through a government system to ensure approval to be on a school campus. Nothing needs to be done in advance, and a Be A Mentor account is not required.
Unsupervised Volunteers
Volunteers who work with or supervise students without direct, continuous TTUSD employee supervision present.
- Common Roles: Field trip drivers/chaperones responsible for a group without staff present, 1-on-1 or small group tutors outside the classroom, hall monitors, and volunteer athletic coaches or club advisors.
- Clearance Requirements: Full background check / LiveScan fingerprinting, TB clearance, driver registration (if transporting students), and mandatory district safety training.
Step 2: Complete Registration & Clearance
Returning Volunteers
If you were previously cleared and fingerprinted through Be A Mentor, your fingerprint clearance is valid for as long as your student is enrolled in TTUSD. You will not need to be fingerprinted again.
Each year, simply log in to your account to complete a few quick updates:
- Log in to your account here: https://bit.ly/TTUSDvolunteer
Once logged in, please visit the "My Requirements" section. Your goal is for all categories to have a green “Completed” box. If you see an orange “Incomplete” box, that item requires your attention.
While most of your information will carry over, please double-check the following items annually:
- Driving Record: Ensure it is valid for the new school year.
- Auto Insurance: Upload a new copy if the one on file has expired.
- Mandated Reporter Training: Verify if your certificate is still valid or if it's time to retake the training.
New Volunteers
The first step is to create an account in our volunteer management system, Be A Mentor. Once registered, your user dashboard will guide you through all the required steps, such as completing a background check and necessary training.

Helpful Resources & On-Campus Procedures
- How-To Video: THIS short video will guide you through the registration and clearance process.
- Changing Schools? If your student is moving from elementary to middle or middle to high school, you do not need a new account. THIS slide deck shows how to update your school association in your existing profile.
- Campus Check-In: Once you are fully cleared, please remember to swipe your driver’s license or ID at the school office upon arrival. A name badge will be printed that must be worn for the entire time you are on campus.
We are incredibly grateful for the time and talent you share with our schools. If you have any questions or need help with the Be A Mentor system, please contact the support team at help@voluntasvms.com.
TTUSD Employee Process
Each year, employees who wish to volunteer as drivers must submit the IK-12 Staff Volunteer Driver Application.
Be sure to:
- Attach a copy of your Driver's License
- Attach your insurance declaration page
- Put the principal from the school at which you are interested in volunteering in the “supervisor” category.
